Monica graduated in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico, as a visual artist. She immigrated to the United States in 2000. Since then she has been involved in the art community, showcasing her artwork all over the state. From 2004 to 2014 she worked as a prevention specialist for Scottsdale Prevention Institute, where she was able to fulfill her passion for working with the community. She created and developed a “Promotoras Model” facilitating research and evidence-based programming to “at-risk” community youth and families with program fidelity. In 2012 Monica became program facilitator for The American Dream Academy – ASU Educational Outreach Program, providing communities with the tools and confidence to have successful academic performance and prepare for college. In summer 2014 Monica joined Earn to Learn. She is the outreach coordinator in Central Arizona. She also provides individual and group coaching as needed or requested by students to ensure college readiness upon entry into university, promote persistence to graduation, and prepare students to succeed after college.
