Eligibility Criteria:

Earn to Learn helps students prepare for college and their future through matched savings, financial education, and one-on-one support.

You’ll save $500 toward your education, and Earn to Learn will match those savings 8:1 to help cover costs and reduce debt.

To participate at Western Governors University (WGU), you’ll need to meet both the Earn to Learn and WGU eligibility requirements outlined below:

Earn to Learn Requirements:

  • Commit to saving $500 in a matched savings account
  • Participate in financial education activities

WGU Requirements:

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined in WGU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy found at: WGU Satisfactory Academic Progress SAP
  • Enroll full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours) in a Preliminary Teacher Licensure Program
  • Have at least 20 Credit Units remaining in their degree program.
  • Reside in rural communities as determined by the student’s home zip code.(Eligible zip codes are determined by WGU)
  • Meet with their WGU mentor to establish a Master Academic Plan.
  • Sign an ETL Agreement and Savings Plan and meet all ETL program requirements.
  • Complete a WGU FERPA Consent to Release Information form.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be eligible for Pell Grants (even if they have met their lifetime limits).

Students are not eligible for ETL if they:

  • Have already earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree; or
  • Enroll in a concurrent program (attend two different colleges part-time simultaneously to total full-time enrollment). Note: this is different from high school dual-enrollment programs.
  • Participation in high school dual-enrollment programs, where students earn college credit before high school graduation, does not affect their eligibility for this scholarship.
